In fact, if you can get it to around 4.5 inches tall, it will work even better. You can tweak your size a little to get it to approximately the 2.7 inches tall and 3.6 inches wide. Most photos taken with a phone or digital camera will have that same ratio. My picture went down to 3.6 in width when I entered 2.7 in height. That will shrink the width automatically. See Figure 4.Ĭlick in the height box (the top of the two boxes) and type in 2.70 and hit enter. On the very right of that Format ribbon are the height and width text boxes. With the picture selected, click on the Picture Tools Format tab at the top of the screen. If that doesn’t work, then we can override the default lock on the ratio. Initially we will try to adjust the size that way. If you adjust the height, then the width will automatically change and vice versa. With most photos, Word is set up to reduce picture sizes by proportion so that they don’t end up with people looking too stretched. We are going to shoot for just under 3 inches tall by 3.5 inches wide. The first thing we need to do is to adjust the size. My penguin image is about 5.5 x 7.5 inches. Once you navigate to where your picture is saved, double-click to insert it into the card. I definitely remember the card since it seemed so personal. The hygienist and dentist that my family normally have appointments with even wrote a little note. And, each of them signed the card, which I thought was a nice touch. It was a way to make them all seem friendly and fun. I liked it because it wasn’t the normal professional way I see them when I go in to the office. Our dentist did one last year when everyone was dressed up in a holiday costume and doing something silly. For a business, you could do a traditional group photo or something that reminds people of your organization. If I were doing this for my own personal use, I would find a picture of my children or of my family to use. I have a picture of penguins that I found on Microsoft’s website. See Figure 3.Ĭhoose any picture that you would like. Then, click on the Insert tab and the Pictures button. You will want to click on the tree clipart and hit the delete key to remove it. It can be a funny photo or something more traditional. To add your own style to the card, you can replace the clipart of the snowy tree with a picture of your company employees or with a photo of something that represents your organization. The message that is located in the bottom right corner of the full page will be on the inside. Then, it will fold in half again so that the picture of the evergreen tree with snow will show on the front. The template will be a normal 8.5 x 11 sheet that will fold in half across the 8.5 inch length. You want to click the Create button on the right. Once you select the template, a window will appear. (Note: If you cannot find the template, it will be attached at the end of the blog post for you to download and use.) It was called “Happy Holidays card from business (quarter-fold)”. I did a search for “holiday cards” and found a good one about four rows down. Open Microsoft Word and click on File and New. To start your card, you will need to download the template. I found a card template that could be customized for a religious holiday that you celebrate or a winter holiday card without an associated religious celebration. If you would like to add a little something special to your cards, you could start by adding your own photo to a greeting card in Word. My family is taking the approach of reducing costs but spending more time on the card and gift. They are wanting to customize a card with either a picture they have taken or with a handwritten note. I think that many organizations don’t want to send out generic cards to their clients with an embossed signature. It seems that the personal touch is making a comeback. Several friends who own small businesses have mentioned the same thing to me recently. We are also trying to make our holiday gifts more thoughtful and less commercial. Are you on a tighter budget than usual this holiday season? I know that my family is trying to cut down on holiday costs.
